A high-powered delegation from China spent Saturday, January 31, 2026, inspecting the proposed Keta Harbour enclave. The visit signals a significant step forward in the Volta

Region's bid to become a global industrial and petrochemical hub.

Led by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, the investors assessed the site's readiness for large-scale industrial installations. The primary focus of the tour was the feasibility of an ultramodern oil refinery, leveraging the vast hydrocarbon prospects of the Keta and Volta basins.

Strategic Industrial Roadmap

The engagement, supported by regional and municipal leaders, outlined a vision that goes beyond traditional shipping. Key pillars discussed include:

  • Petrochemical Hub: Plans for facilities to process raw hydrocarbons into high-value products.

  • Energy Security: Leveraging the identified oil and gas potential within the Volta Basin.

  • Regional Integration: Positioning Keta as a critical maritime and logistics node for West Africa.

  • Youth Empowerment: A commitment to training the local workforce to fill technical roles in these emerging industries.

Leadership and Community Vision

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing the necessary security and infrastructure to ensure these investments succeed.
