Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has formally acknowledged the outcome of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary. The firebrand politician stated he had mentally prepared
for either victory or defeat.
With over 55% of the votes counted, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia holds a firm lead. Agyapong currently trails alongside Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyepong.
Addressing journalists on Saturday, January 31, Agyapong described himself as a "veteran" who understands the highs and lows of politics. He urged his followers to keep their spirits high despite the disappointing results.
The Message to "Team Ken"
-
Resilience: Agyapong noted that defeat is "not the end of life" and urged supporters to stay happy.
-
Acceptance: He emphasized that the delegates have spoken and their decision must be respected.
-
Gratitude: He thanked his team for their hard work, noting that "God's time is the best."
A Call for Party Unity
The Assin Central MP was quick to shut down any "No Ken, No Vote" sentiments. He warned that such slogans are divisive and could harm the party’s chances in the general election.
"Once they have decided, let's all come together as party members and work together," Agyapong stated. He promised to host a formal dinner for his campaign team to show his appreciation for their loyalty.
As the final collation continues, Agyapong’s call for unity is seen as a crucial step for the NPP. The party now looks toward a unified front behind the eventual winner for the 2028 polls.
The Bottom Line
Kennedy Agyapong has gracefully conceded the NPP primary to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, calling for an immediate end to internal divisions to focus on the 2028 general elections.
