Suame MP empowers 34 students, supports institutions with logistics

Demonstrating a commitment to grassroots development, Mr. John Darko, the Member of Parliament for Suame, has donated logistics worth GH₵ 500,000 a

nd awarded scholarships to 34 students in a major support exercise on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

The intervention follows the MP’s recent "listening tour" of public institutions, where staff highlighted significant equipment deficits hindering their day-to-day operations.

1. Strengthening Institutional Capacity

The logistics package was designed to modernize public services and improve the productivity of civil servants within the Suame Municipality.

Key Logistics Distributed:

  • Tech & Office: Laptops, desktop computers, projectors, air conditioners, and 500 sets of tables and chairs.

  • Health & Safety: Refrigerators (for vaccine/medicine storage), wheelchairs, and a motorbike for field mobility.

  • Community Support: Rechargeable fans and sewing machines for vocational groups.

Primary Beneficiary Institutions:

  • Education & Health Sectors: Schools and local clinics.

  • Emergency Services: Ghana National Fire Service (Suame Command).

  • Vulnerable Groups: The Disability Union and the Seamstress Union.

2. Human Capital: The 2026 Scholarship Scheme

Alongside the physical tools, Mr. Darko presented scholarship awards to 34 constituents to pursue higher education.

"Investment in human capital is critical to the long-term socio-economic development of Suame. Education remains one of the most sustainable pathways to community transformation." — Hon. John Darko

The MP emphasized that while providing laptops and furniture solves immediate problems, the scholarship scheme is aimed at creating the next generation of Suame’s leaders and professionals.

3. Accountability and Maintenance

The MP issued a stern reminder to all beneficiaries—especially institutional heads—regarding the "maintenance culture." He noted that for the GH₵ 500,000 investment to be meaningful, the equipment must be properly accounted for and maintained to serve future generations of Suame residents.

Members of the Seamstress Union specifically lauded the donation of sewing machines, noting that the equipment would provide an immediate boost to their income-generating capacity and help train apprentices within the municipality.

The Bottom Line

With this half-million-Cedi intervention, Mr. John Darko is cementing his development agenda by focusing on institutional readiness and educational access. This move comes at a strategic time as Suame continues its transition into a modernized municipal hub within the Ashanti Region.
