2nd UG Corporate League Launches: 20 Teams, One Unified UG Side

The University of Ghana (UG) Corporate Football League officially launched its second edition on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the UG Stadium VIP

Lounge. This year’s tournament, running from February to June, features an expanded roster of 20 teams and a significant tactical shift by the host institution.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo revealed that after fielding five separate teams in the maiden edition, the university has consolidated its talent into a single, unified University of Ghana team for 2026. "The first edition taught us strategy," she noted, emphasizing that the league is now about "scaling impact."

The "Group of Death" and Key Seedings

The official balloting, led by Rite Sports CEO Yaw Sakyi Afari, has set the stage for a high-intensity season. Defending champions GCAA enter a particularly challenging Group A, dubbed by many as the "Group of Death."

2026 Season Highlights & Logistics

Organizers and partners have introduced several upgrades to enhance the "match-day" experience:

  • Kickoff Date: Matches begin Friday, February 13, 2026.

  • Friday Night Lights: Games will be played every Friday evening from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the UG Sports Stadium.

  • Match Format: Each half will last 20 minutes, creating a fast-paced 50-minute total game time (including intervals).

  • Broadcast Partner: GBC returns as the official TV partner to showcase what Director George Lomotey calls a "broadcast masterpiece."

  • Health & Wellness: Minister of Sports and Recreation Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams (in a speech read on his behalf) emphasized the league’s role in reducing workplace stress and boosting employee morale.
