Land Fraud Scandal: Former Asokore-Mampong MCE and 8 Others Granted GH₵800,000 Bail

A Kumasi High Court has granted bail to the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Asokore-Mampong, Alhaji Alidu Seidu, and eight other accomplices following their

involvement in a high-profile land fraud case. The group is accused of the illicit sale of 10.54 acres of government land situated in Buoban, a suburb of Kumasi.

The land in question was officially designated for a critical public project: the establishment of a community hospital. The current MCE of Asokore-Mampong, Mr. Ben Abdullah Alhassan, serves as the complainant in the case, which has sent shockwaves through the Ashanti Region's local government circles.

1. The Accused: A Network of Officials and Private Individuals

The prosecution has painted a picture of a coordinated effort involving former assembly staff and traditional figures to bypass state protocols.

Former Assembly Officials on Trial:

  • Alhaji Alidu Seidu: Former MCE, Asokore-Mampong.

  • Abigail Agyemang Boateng: Former Physical Planning Officer.

  • Henry Acquah: Former Principal Technical Officer.

  • Solomon Kwakye: Former Senior Technical Officer.

Other Accomplices: Ibrahim Osman, Abubakar Wazir Ayuba, Mohammed Salisu, Mallam Ismail Umar, and Abdul Wahab Mohammed.

Additionally, bench warrants have been issued for Brima Fredua Agyemang II (Kenyasehene) and Kofi Nti Buoban Odikro, who failed to appear in court.

2. The Charges: 12 Counts of Illegality

The defendants face a total of 12 charges stemming from what the prosecution describes as the "nefarious" falsification of official land documents.

3. Stringent Bail Conditions

While the court presided over the matter and granted bail, the conditions are significantly high, reflecting the gravity of the alleged GH₵1.5 million+ land value.

  • Bail Amount: GH₵800,000 each.

  • Sureties: Three sureties per person.

  • Collateral: Two of the three sureties must provide substantiated legitimate landed property.

At the time of this report, all nine defendants remained in police custody, as they had yet to satisfy these rigorous financial and property requirements.

4. Impact on the Community

The sale of this specific plot is particularly contentious because it halts the development of the Buoban Community Hospital. Under the current government's 2026 "Reset" agenda, local infrastructure is a priority, and the loss of designated health land is seen as a direct hit to the welfare of Asokore-Mampong residents.

The Bottom Line

The case has been adjourned to March 12, 2026. As the "Reset" on public accountability intensifies, this trial serves as a warning to public officials regarding the sanctity of state-designated lands. The focus now shifts to whether the fugitives—the Kenyasehene and the Buoban Odikro—will be apprehended before the next hearing.
