Roads Before Rooftops: Appolonia City Sets New Urban Standard

Hon. Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, has officially designated the Appolonia City project as the "gold standard"

for urban development in Ghana. Speaking at the commissioning of a massive new infrastructure phase in Kpone-Katamanso, the Minister praised the project's disciplined, private-sector-led planning as the blueprint for reshaping the nation’s housing landscape.

The event marked the delivery of 25 kilometers of high-quality asphalt roads, designed and executed in partnership with Core Construction Limited.

A Model for "Infrastructure-Led" Growth

Unlike many developments in Ghana that struggle with retrospective infrastructure, Appolonia City follows a "future-proof" model where services are delivered ahead of demand.

  • The 25km Phase: Features world-class asphalt roads, pedestrian walkways, dedicated cycling paths, and advanced stormwater drainage systems.

  • Master-Planned Scale: The community spans 2,325 acres, specifically designed by Rendeavour to counteract the chaotic urban sprawl of the Greater Accra Region.

  • Investment Power: To date, over US$250 million has been injected into the site, including a massive 75MVA primary substation and 50km of utility networks.

Strategic Partnerships for Quality

Perminas Marisi, Country Head for Rendeavour Ghana, emphasized that roads are the "arteries" of a city. By investing in these before residents move in, the project ensures long-term mobility and prevents the traffic congestion common in unplanned Accra neighborhoods

Key Technical Partnerships:

  • Core Construction Limited: Tasked with delivering roads that meet the highest technical standards for durability and safety.

  • Local Governance: The project is supported by the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly, represented at the ceremony by MP Hon. Joseph Tettey.

The Bottom Line

With $250 million already invested, Appolonia City is proving that when infrastructure is built before houses, it creates a sustainable, high-quality environment that serves as a template for the "Accra of the future."
