Bui Tennis Club Unveils Talent Pipeline for Savannah Region

The Bui Tennis Club (BTC), the official tennis body for the Savannah Region, has announced a landmark partnership with the Ghana Tennis Federation

(GTF) to transform the Bui/Jama enclave into a competitive tennis hub.

At a high-level technical session held at the Bui Power Authority (BPA) plant site on February 9, 2026, BTC Chairman Mr. Wumbilla Salifu revealed that the club has already identified 15 young prospects from the Jama community for intensive grooming. One standout youngster has already secured a full scholarship to the Bui Academy, marking the program's first major success.

Honoring a Legend: The Adjetey Legacy

The two-day tournament was held in honor of Warrant Officer (WO) Emmanuel Adjetey Adjei, the club's founding coach who is retiring from active service at the BPA.

  • Legacy of Leadership: WO Adjetey is credited with engineering the formation of the club three years ago, growing it to its current strength of 43 members including BPA staff from both the dam site and Accra.

  • Inauguration of Patrons: The event also saw the inauguration of an 11-member group of patrons, with Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam (CEO of BPA) serving as Chief Patron to provide institutional backing for the club's expansion.

Strategic Regional Development

Speaking at the event, the Upper West Regional Minister, Hon. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, emphasized that tennis has evolved beyond mere recreation into a serious economic driver.

  • Scholarship Opportunities: GTF President Mr. Isaac Aboagye Duah urged clubs to market their talents on social media, noting that international tennis scholarships are a viable pathway for rural youth to reach the global stage.

  • Infrastructure Needs: The GTF has called for increased corporate support to build modern courts in the Savannah Region, aiming to replicate the talent-scouting successes usually seen only in Accra.

Participating Teams & Results

The competition fostered regional solidarity, featuring teams from across Northern and Bono Ghana.

  • Techiman Holy Family Tennis Club

  • Techiman Tennis Club

  • Wa Tennis Club

  • Bui Tennis Club (Host)

All participating clubs were presented with trophies and medals in a ceremony graced by Mr. Kwabena Kissiedu Atiemo of the Tactical Air Command (TAC), Bui.

The Bottom Line

The Bui Tennis Club is no longer just a staff recreational outlet; it is now the official Savannah Regional hub for the GTF, using its "Jama 15" initiative to prove that world-class tennis talent can be found right in the heart of the dam enclave.
